Zotero snatched downloads meant for Endnote
On Oct. 17, 2006 dancohen suggested a fix for this problem. They say “You can change this setting in the Zotero preferences (which you can access in the "gear" menu). Just uncheck "Use Zotero for downloaded Endnote files." Unfortunately, when a research faculty member and I open our Preferences file and click on the gear icon, there is no such option. I need to use both Zotero and Endnote with differenct patrons. Can someone tell me how to prevent Zotero from stepping, even when it is NOT open and grabbing the citations I want to to send to Endnote?
Thank you,

There are two different relevant settings:
1. In the Zotero connector preferences, "Import BibTeX/RIS/Refer files into Zotero" -- that affects what happens when you click on RIS (etc.) files in your browser
2. The file system's association of Zotero with a given file extension (here, likely, .ris). That applies when opening files from your file system. How to change this depends on your OS, but it's easy to google. On Windows, changing the default app after using right-click --> Open With is imo the easiest way, but you can also see and adjust all file associations somewhere in the system settings)
