runtime error 53 file not found user32

Hi,
I have an issue when trying to cite in Word using Zotero. If I click any of the buttons under the banner, i.e. Add/Edit Citation or even Insert Note etc. An error pop up window errors with the following:
run-time error '53':
file not found: user32

I have already tried the following:
- uninstalling and reinstalling Microsoft Word
- uninstalling and reinstalling Zotero
- uninstalling and reinstalling the entire of Microsoft Office
- removing all other reference manager tools on the computer

For context I am on a Mac laptop. The software totally fine up until recently, however no changes have been made on the computer such as new software or MACOS update or anything as such. It just stopped working randomly.
