Interface suggestion: Display singleton notes in note pane of top-level item

Currently, when you select a top level item and have the notes pane open, you see a list of all notes for that item. For those of us who never have more than one note for an item (I imagine this is pretty common), this is not very useful.

It seems to me that a reasonable default would be to show the content of the note when there is only one note associated with the item. I imagine this would be below a button to add a new note.

Thanks for considering!
  • Just a quick note to add that an even better option would be a "summary" pane, which a customizable template (having access to all the fields in info, notes, tags, and related). Power users would love this, and I can imagine that one could design a default template that would be more useful than any of the current panes for the average user as well. This is how the bibdesk info pane works.

For example, I would set it up to show

    [APA formatted reference]
    [tags if any exist]
    [content of first note]

I realize this is a pipe dream, but it's fun to think about :)
