Visual CSL Editor preview vs. reality

edited March 26, 2023
Hello! After many hours of looking for the solution I finally decided to ask your help.
I'm creating my first citation style and something goes wrong. I can't handle with initialize-with="." command.

In the Visual CSL Editor everything looks perfectly:

I. MARES, «Firms and the welfare state: When, why, and how does social policy matter to employers?» in P.A. Hall – e D. Soskice, ed., Varieties of capitalism. The institutional foundations of comparative advantage, New York, 184-213.
S. HAWKING, Properties of expanding universes, Doctoral thesis, University of Cambridge, Cambridge, UK 1966, <https://doi.org/10.17863/CAM.11283>.
J.L. CAMPBELL – O.K. PEDERSEN, «The varieties of capitalism and hybrid success», Comp. Polit. Stud. 40/3 (2007) 307-332, <https://doi.org/10.1177/0010414006286542>, W. ISAACSON, Steve Jobs, New York, NY 2011, J.L. BORGES, Selected non-fictions, New York, NY 1999, B. HANCKE – al., ed., Beyond varieties of capitalism: Conflict, contradiction, and complementarities in the European economy, Oxford and New York, NY 2007, M. FENNER – al., «A data citation roadmap for scholarly data repositories», Sci. Data 6/1 (2019) 28, <https://doi.org/10.1038/s41597-019-0031-8>.

but in my MS Office it differs:

NOME GOGNOME, ed., Opera Omnia, London 2012.
NAME SURNAME, «Article Title», Journal Name 54/3 (2022) 34–45.
NAME2 SURNAME2, «Book Section»in Book, London, 240–256.
NOME GOGNOME, Book Normal, Roma 2023.
NAME SURNAME – al., Collective Book, Venezia 2000.
NAME SURNAME, «Name of Document», .1997.
NAME SURNAME, «Title of website» <www.any-website.com> [ultima consultazione: 23.10.2013].
NAME SURNAME, «Encyclopedia Article», .2000.
NAME SURNAME, «Dictionary Entry», .1994.
NAME SURNAME, «Conference Paper»Presentato al Conference Name, Torino gennaio 23 .

I'd like to have it: N. SURNAME, (...)

I was playing with default-locale="it-IT" and xml:lang="it-IT" settings, maybe I changed someting in the wrong place? Because at the beginnings shortening of names was funcioning well.
And the worst is that other citation styles also stopped to work (I tried 3-4 of them in Italian and English languages), p.es. http://www.zotero.org/styles/pontifical-gregorian-university after installing, shows me full names and full surnames, although it always worked well before. Does it mean that I changed something in Zotero program itself?

I'll be honestly gratefull for any tips...

P.S. Don't worry about the inconsistencies in the bibliography part and the other mistakes like dots in front of years, I haven't worked on it yet.
  • The style you posted does initialize -- check that you have entered authors correctly in Zotero (as lastname, firstname in two fields)
  • Ahh, so simple! As you suggested, I changed authors from one field to two fields and it works now.
    Thank you so much!
