Open a PDF and notes side-by-side on iPad

Hello! I’m trying to incorporate my note-taking in Zotero. On the desktop, I can easily open the Notes pane on the right-hand side and add notes while also annotating a PDF. However, I can’t seem to do this in the iPad app? Or I just can’t find which button to press to open notes while also have a PDF open.
