Highlighting issue with two columns

When trying to highlight a section in an article with two columns it highlights both columns instead of one. Is there a way to fix this issue?

    1) Is the PDF file scanned and OCRed?
    2) Does it happen with other PDF viewers?

    If so, you need to OCR the PDF file again to fix that.
