Every time I save a new reference in zotero, I get this messaage and it takes quite some time for the processing to get done. Any ideas why this happens?

That would be related to the BetterBibTeX plugin. You should open an issue on the BetterBibTeX GitHub repo.

That is correct, if you open an issue on github I can see what's the matter. But first guess would be a large auto-export.
