Plugin that will check my library for an existing identifier before adding a new reference?

Library has gotten fairly large and I'm creating duplicates fairly frequently because it's tedious to check every single time whether it already exists. Automatic detection of this would be incredibly helpful. Is there a plugin that can do this? Or are there plans for this feature? Thanks

There's no add-on I'm aware of, but yes, this is generally planned as a feature (and you're very much not the only one asking for it)-- though it has been planned for a while, so no promises that it'll happen any time very soon.

Unfortunately, this would be somewhat tricky to do with an add-on given the interaction between the browser connector and Zotero itself, which is, I assume, why no one has done this yet.
