Can't Install Firefox Connector using Firefox Developer Edition

Greetings. When I try to install the Firefox Connector (https://www.zotero.org/download/connector/dl?browser=firefox&version=5.0.104) as found on the Download page (https://www.zotero.org/download/), I get an error:

www.zotero.org
The add-on could not be downloaded because of a connection failure.

I suspect this is an issue with using FF Dev edition, but since I have to do that, is there a workaround or a place I could suggest allowing this?
  • Quick workaround: using the console I was able to find the direct URL to download (had to do so using wget on the command line in terminal) - https://download.zotero.org/connector/firefox/release/Zotero_Connector-5.0.104.xpi - and install from file.
  • No, that would just be some issue with your installation (related to a proxy, a custom certificate authority, etc.). The extension installs fine in general in the Dev Edition.

The Browser Console might give you a more specific error. Firefox has always shown that message instead of something more helpful.

Well, it does not for me. The Console, which is where I was able to find the direct link, doesn't seem to show anything useful. I am testing on new profile, no extensions, current Firefox Dev edition.

It's a little baffling to me why all this rigamarole instead of just providing a direct link in the first place?
