Further ways as zotero.desktop available to start Zotero

I have no idea how soon I have my non-working zotero.desktop file fixed. Are there other ways I can use till that one is fixed?
It’s about Linux PC I didn’t use Zotero on in past.
  • I'm not sure I understand everything, but if you can't get the zotero.desktop file to run, you can just run Zotero by going into the folder where you (or the .deb package) have saved & extracted Zotero using cd and run ./zotero

    Thanks for hint.
    C:\home\marm> cd /opt/zotero

    # zotero window not coming up then user decides to repeat as root

    C:\opt\zotero> ./zotero
    zsh: permission denied: ./zotero

    C:\opt\zotero> sudo ./zotero
    [sudo] password for marm:
Running Firefox as root in a regular user's session is not supported. ($XAUTHORITY is /home/marm/.Xauthority which is owned by marm.)

If you're not comfortable on the command line, you shouldn't be doing this. Trying to run Zotero with sudo to fix a permissions problem is totally inappropriate.

If this is a Debian/Ubuntu-based system, use the zotero-deb package, mentioned on the installation page.

    this message invalided
  • The deb packages are test-installed every two hours -- they're not invalid.
  • (I think that was referring to the earlier version of the post.)
