Optimizing storage space

For some projects my research is shared. This means that other users may not have access through my library's portal to the databases I'm searching. To make it easier for them to read the articles I've located I save as an attached copy a pdf file. As a consequence, I've used up my free storage space and no longer have room for my own work. Can I associate pdf files in a different way that doesn't use up storage space so rapidly?
  • not if you want them to be synced and accessible in groups or on synced computers - a pdf is as small as it's going to get. You can link to file instead of store file, those files aren't synced, but of course that comes with all the downsides, too.
