What happens if I don't renew my storage?

Hi there,

if I buy the 2GB storage and use it only one year and unsubscribe after that, what happens with the 2GB storage afterwards? Will the content be deleted?
  • The stored files above 300MB (i.e. the free tier) will eventually (I think they give you ~30days grace period) be removed from the Zotero servers, but any local copies in Zotero will not be touched.
  • thanks for the quick reply. so, if I then rebuy the 2gb storage it will stay as 2GB?
    And isn't there anything permantely?
  • Yes, if you renew at 2GB, you'd stay at 2GB (not sure I understand the question, though).
I'm not aware of *anyone* who would sell you online storage permanently. Zotero definitely doesn't.

What's the specific issue you're trying to address?
  • Of course there are permanent storages, like Dropbox or endnote -> here you pay once and then you can use Endnote without neither storage limitations nor time limitations
  • There's some confusion here. You don't need to buy Zotero or any storage at all to use the software. You only pay for the online storage of attachments. As I say, attachments aren't deleted when storage lapses, they're only removed from the server.

Dropbox very much has has annual costs. https://www.dropbox.com/plans

With Endnote, you can buy the software permanently -- or at least as long as it will run without version updates, for which you would, again, have to pay (Zotero software is free). They do give you online storage with that, but if you read the fine-print, the online storage (i.e. the "Endnote Web (Premium)" account is only valid for two years after purchase/registration.
