Syncing to another computer

Hi,

I have installed Zotero on a new computer and synced (I think!) with the my library on my old computer but it comes up as an empty library. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your help but I can't get it to work and I also can't seem to input any new articles into the library. When I right click on an article there is no option to add to Zotero even when Zotero is open.

Let's troubleshoot this one thing at a time. The link above has specific troubleshooting steps for syncing. Run through them, report what you see, and provide all the information requested in steps 3 and 6 as relevant.

Ok, so step one is fine. Step two, I do not currently have access to the original computer but the sync icon on the new computer is not spinning. Step three, there are no error messages. Step four, the folders are ticked to sync in the sync preferences. Step five, I am not aware of having set up more than one account (although it was a long time ago, so I may have forgotten) but it is synced to what I am pretty sure is my account and my name has come up.

Is that any help?

For step 2, though, you can check your online library -- are all your items there?

The folders are there but here is nothing in them.

If that's indeed the case, then the problem is syncing up from your original computer. You won't be able to get anything via sync that's not in the online library.

oh ok. How do I save new articles to the library. I don't get the option to save to Zotero when I right click.

right-click where? The standard process of adding to Zotero doesn't involved any right clicks, see https://www.zotero.org/support/adding_items_to_zotero

When you have an article up you normally just right click and one of the options that comes up is 'save to Zotero' but it doesn't seem to come up on this computer.

You need the browser connector installed for the brower you're using, but also, the standard way of doing this is the Save to Zotero icon, as per the linked page.

I just tried to download the connector but it said it was already downloaded. There is no change in the save button.
