How to avoid automatic tags

I am a new Zotero user. I have earlier used the tags function in Mendeley as an important key to organize my references. When I imported my references to Zotero a large number of useless tags were auto generated. How can I delete them? And can I avoid auto generation of tags in future uploaded references?

    They weren't "auto generated" — if you imported from Mendeley, the tags came from Mendeley.

    If they're actually automatic tags (i.e., they show up as orange in the Tags pane for an item), you can delete them all from the menu in the tag selector in the bottom left.

    You can disable automatic tag creation for items you save to Zotero from the General pane of the preferences.
