how to set et al. in italic?

I am using Elsevier Havard 2.
When I do in-text citations for my thesis, et al. does not come in italic automatically. So How can I set it as italic?

What is this for? It's a modification of the citation style -- I don't think this is done in the standard Elsevier styles, but we can look at this for a specific journal.
(The basic code to change this is <et-al font-style="italic"/> but it's in a fairly finicky part of citation styles so not the best part to get starting editing them)
