Zotero crashes after opening (on Mac)

  • You'll need to say more. What macOS version? What exactly happens?

If Zotero closes completely, can you provide the first 100 or so lines from the relevant crash report in the Console app?

  • First, you should update macOS to the latest version of at least Monterey, though it's unlikely to fix this issue.

This is a known issue on Macs using external monitors with certain Zotero plugins that cause a popup window to open. (It's a bug in Zotero itself that will be fixed in Zotero 7, but the plugins trigger it.) If you're running any plugins, try disabling them from Tools → Add-ons, or hold down Option at startup.
  • Yes, it is true, I’m using an external monitor and trying to move highlights from Zotero (in the first monitor) to Obsidian (in the second monitor).

Now, Zotero is working again, I don’t why and how. But you say this will happen again. I will then make use of your tricks. Thanks very much indeed!

Do you have any idea when Zotero 7 will dispatched?
  • There should be a beta in a few months.
  • Wow, unthinkable way to fix a crashing application if did not find this, thanks, I just unplugged the external monitor then it started OK. Only extension I had is betterbibtex.
