iOS: broken document search bar state

edited January 6, 2023
In iOS version 1.0.8 build 10, the search bar (to search a document) exhibits some weird behavior. Mainly, it does not always display the search pattern that is being used.

0. Open a PDF.
1. Tap on the search button and enter a search pattern.
2. Tap on one of the search results and notice that the corresponding math on the page is highlighted.
3. Tap on the search button again. Notice that the previous search results are displayed, but the search pattern (as well as the X button to cancel the search) is no longer displayed.
4. Without closing the search dialog, tap in the "Search in Document" field to bring up the keyboard.
5. Tap on the document to dismiss the keyboard.
6. Click on the search button again. Notice that the search pattern and search results are not displayed, but the text on the page from the previous search result is still highlighted.
7. Clicking on the highlighted text on the page clears the search.

Also, it is difficult to clear a search pattern since the X button to cancel the search disappears (see step 3 above).

  • Sorry, I forgot to mention that this occurs on both an iPad and an iPhone.

This is still an issue with version 1.0.19 Build 171. I noticed it again after trying to view more than 2 match results:

    1. Search for a pattern with many matches (e.g., "the").
    2. Tap on the first match result.
    3. Tap on the magnifying glass to see the other matches.
    4. Tap on another match result.
    5. Tap on the magnifying glass to see the other matches.
    6. Notice that the search pattern and search results are not displayed, but the text on the page from the previous search result is still highlighted
