SKIM annotations import to Zotero PDF Reader & Note Editor

Seeking a way to import SKIM annotations (https://sourceforge.net/projects/skim-app/) to Zotero PDF Reader. A key feature of Zotero PDF Reader is cross-platform whereas SKIM is not. However, SKIM has feature rich research annotation functionality that is not available in Zotero PDF Reader. A limitation of SKIM is the lack of export to Zotero, but there is an fdf export format that is readable by Adobe PDF Reader.
Suggestions?
  • Zotero reads standard PDF annotations (and then allows you to convert those to Zotero PDF annotations) -- you should be able to convert Skim to those, no?
  • Thus far, the only way I have found to migrate SKIM annotations to Zotero Reader is via SKIM fdf export format, then open in Adobe Acrobat and save to new PDF file. Take the new Adobe Acrobat PDF and add to Zotero. Then SKIM annotations become visible and the “Import Annotations…” function becomes active.
  • Following.

But @sswettenham I might have one suggestion (avid skim user here too, love/hate with their proprietary .skim files), when you export, perhaps you could export PDF, then there's an option for you to choose embedded notes. https://i.imgur.com/FXss1Of.png

I'm also playing with the idea of incorporating this. https://github.com/alexandergogl/SkimPDF
