Import Word .docx file containing Sente reference citations

I have Word .docx file containing reference citations in the format of {Author 1999}. Is there a way to convert these placeholders for actual Zotero citations? I tried RTF Scan. This successfully matched my references to Zotero references. I opened the output file in Word and the bibliography is properly prepared. But the {Author 1999} placeholders still exist and there are no Zotero-like citations. How can I get Zotero to read these type of placeholders?
