Zotero documentation: sitemap?

Hello,

I am one of the contributors of the French translation of the documentation (https://docs.zotero-fr.org).

To be able to follow the changes in the official documentation, we use the RSS feed of Dokuwiki (https://www.zotero.org/support/feed.php).

But we may need to check the complete list of existing pages in the official documentation. Dokuwiki can generate a sitemap (https://www.dokuwiki.org/sitemap), which would be very useful for us, but it seems that this feature has not been activated: https://www.zotero.org/support/doku.php?do=sitemap.

Do you think you can enable this feature?

This is a heroic effort, but we really don't encourage any attempt at direct manual translation of the entire documentation site — if we thought that was a good idea, we would've left the localization pages enabled. We strongly feel that machine translation is good enough at this point — certainly for going between English and French — that people are better off using machine translation (e.g., using Chrome or Safari's built-in feature, or an extension in Firefox) to read the official documentation, which is precisely worded and constantly updated. As I'm sure you know, we also have over a hundred knowledge base articles, and we're writing more all the time, and it just doesn't make sense to try to keep up with those.

As I said when we disabled the localization pages:

We'd encourage communities that want to maintain documentation in other languages to create more manageable usage guides elsewhere without trying to mirror the full breadth, detail, and up-to-dateness of the official documentation.

Maintaining manual translations of the most important pages might make sense, if you can commit to keeping them regularly updated, but mirroring the whole site just isn't something we think anyone should be trying to do.

We are aware of your position and we know well the two discussions you mention for having contributed to them. We don't want to revisit this topic again, however please be sure we are fully committed to providing updated information. After several months of use, I can tell you we are keeping up well and not missing any changes. We are up to date for the "main" documentation. Regarding the knowledge base, if a page doesnk’t exist in the French documentation, it links to the English version until it is translated. So there is no outdated information in the French documentation.

To return to this post's main object, do you think the sitemap feature (which seems to be a basic setting included in dokuwiki’s core) could be enabled on the wiki? Wouldn't it also have positive side effects, such as improving the indexation of the pages?
