Syncing group libraries - selecting files

I would like to sync our group library with the new zotero storage, so that we could also share our PDFs.
As far as I know there will be a local copy of the group library on each group members computer. If our synced library is for example 1,5 GB then every group member will get 1,5 GB each on his or her local drive. Our admins are not happy about this, especially cause there is more data that has to be backuped.
I know that it is possible to sync without file syncing, but thats less charming.

Is it maby possible to sync the library without attachments and download the files on demand? Most of my collegues does not need all the literature.

    On-demand downloading is planned, but we don't have an estimate for when it will be implemented.
