Problem with copy/pasting citation - formatting not preserved

I am trying to copy/paste citations into a google doc in APA 7 style, but when I paste the citation, it is not the correct format. For example, it pastes the following:

Pyke, Graham H., James D. Thomson, David W. Inouye, and Timothy J. Miller. “Effects of Climate Change on Phenologies and Distributions of Bumble Bees and the Plants They Visit.” Edited by D. P. C. Peters. Ecosphere 7, no. 3 (2016). https://doi.org/10.1002/ecs2.1267.

Instead of the following, which is correct APA 7 format:

Pyke, G.H., Thomson, J.D., Inouye, D.W., & Miller, T.K. (2016). Effects of Climate Change on Phenologies and Distributions of Bumble Bees and the Plants They Visit. Ecosphere, 7(3). https://doi.org/10.1002/ecs2.1267.

I made sure APA 7 is selected in the Preferences menu, and the preview looks fine, but the format doesn't change for copy/pasting. I am using Ctrl+Shift+C to copy the citations from Zotero. Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks!
  • Which preferences? You select the Quick Copy style in the Export pane of the preferences.
  • Ah I see, thank you! I thought the "Cite" preferences was a global setting, I didn't realize I needed to set it separately in the "Export" menu as well. Thank you, much appreciated!
  • Cite → Styles is just for adding/removing styles. There's nothing to actually select there.
  • Gotcha, my misunderstanding
