cannot sync because creator name is too long

  • @GillianOD: No one has provided us with steps to reproduce this — e.g., an example URL or search from a specific site. That's what we need to fix this. As noted above, the original poster's data came from some export their librarian did, but they didn't know from where.
  • I did the export from my university's PSYC Info link which is through OVID. I saved the completed citation choosing RIS, downloaded them on to my computer, and imported them into Zotero where they look fine. Then I clicked sync and got error messages for every article that the creator name was too long. Can I email you screenshots?

You can send a sample RIS file to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread and we'll see what we can do. Really Ovid or PsycInfo should fix their invalid data, though.

Just out of curiosity, is there a reason you're exporting to RIS instead of saving using the Zotero Connector? The Zotero Connector will generally specifically fix problems like this with the data sites provide.
  • For scoping/systematic reviews (one of the few things that OVID is decent for given it's reliable search interface), the browser connector is a lot more cumbersome -- to import 1k articles you need to save between 10-50 times and have a good chance to get locked out. Most databases that are routinely used for such reviews let you export all search results in one operation.
