Upgrade StorageZoltero on two devices not syncing

I have read through the solutions posted for other who have struggled with the same issue.
I'm having trouble syncing Zoltero on two devices. I have created files on my laptop (Mac) and desktop (Mac), respectively, which is also visible when I access the Zoltero online library via the website. The references contained in each of the files on the laptop and desktop is, however, different i.e. those added while working on the desktop appears only in Zoltero desktop app and those imported while working on the laptop only on the laptop app.
When I access my library via the website, none of the references from the desktop or laptop appear under the new files.
The sync settings on the desktop and laptop are exactly the same and some but not all of the references have pdf attachments.
