Attaching documents doesn't work

I use Zotero 1.0.10 with Firefox 3.5.4 under Linux. When I try to attach a pdf file to an entry in Zotero, nothing happens at all. No error message, but no attachment appearing in the entry either. I tried the various ways of doing this, but to no effect. Thanks for help.
