Standalone pdf viewer?

I am not sure if this is already possible, but the integrated pdf viewer for the zotero is so good that I want it to be stand-alone as well.

For now, the only way I can view a pdf file via that the pdf viewer is, as far as I know, to add the file into the library with a new entry. But there are pdf files that I need to open but are not necessarily worth the space in the library.

Is it possible currently to use its pdf viewer to open files outside of library? If not, do you plan to release the standalone pdf viewer?
  • Thanks for that. You're not the first to ask, but it's not currently possible and isn't something we're currently planning. Part of the power of the PDF reader is the integrated annotation functionality, which stores data in the Zotero database, so it wouldn't really work to use it to open random other files unless it was purely for viewing (in which case you could get roughly the same experience by opening a PDF in your browser).

Note that, if the only concern is storage space, you can add individual files on your computer as linked files, which wouldn't be synced by Zotero.
