Cannot remove citation dialogue box on Mac

I used to work with Zotero and Word in a Windows computer. All worked well. Now I use it on a Mac but I encounter the problem that, if I have an open citation dialogue box (the small red box in which the citations show up), I cannot remove it. An empty box just stays there and I do no know how to get rid of it unless I close Zotero and start all over. How can I fix this?
