problem with word (for mac)'s plugin—runtime error 5

Dear fellow users,

since few days, word mo longer allows me to interact with zotero. When I click on any of the buttons, it returns the runtime "error 5".

I have tried to reinstall zotero, to no avail.

I cannot re-install the office package because I bought it as a single user, thus the access key no longer works for me.

Similar topics on the forum are not update, and anyway didn't help me resolving the issue.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Update: I tried to reinstall both word and zotero--no results.

Please, help!

A couple people have (oddly) fixed this by removing Audio Unit plugins on their system.

If it's not that (and you'd likely know if that applies to you), and you're running the latest Zotero, macOS, Word versions, see https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/comment/369565/#Comment_369565 for steps to provide more debugging info.

Hi everybody. So...I just decided not use Bookends and transferred everything to Zotero. Everything was working just fine until yesterday! Today I just began working again (the word and zotero where still opened since yesterday) and... Runtime error 5! My word is version 16.66 and zotero is 6.0.26. I'm using Catalina.
I saw a lot of complains through the years about this situation, and haven't reached any conclusion. What should I do?
