Zotero crashes when dragging and dropping annotations from the zotero reader

Report ID: 94634458

I am not sure exactly under which circumstances this happens, but it has happened fairly often recently. When I turned on debug logging, I managed to drag and drop quite a number of annotations before it happened. Just before it happened, I opened the Advanced Preferences Editor, so maybe it has something to do with that?

Hope the debug logs help.

Crashing as in the program quits completely, or something else? If the former, can you provide a crash log from the OS? (You can email it to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread.) If the latter, please provide a Debug ID (different from a Report ID).

Does it happen if you disable all your third-party plugins?
  • Crashing as in the program quits completely. I sent the macOS crash report to support@zotero.org.

Sorry, don't have time now to do further testing with plugins. Will get back with info on that asap,

Are you running any sort of system software related to the clipboard? We haven't received any other reports of this.
  • I am using Alfred (https://www.alfredapp.com/) which includes a clipboard history. Is that what you mean?

Alfred is very popular, so if this issue is related to Alfred, you will likely see multiple reports of this.
  • You should try with Alfred disabled to see if you can still reproduce it. Nothing has changed in Zotero's clipboard handling in years, and if there's a bug it wouldn't be fixed until the next major version of Zotero when we update the underlying platform. The point here would just be to try to identify the issue.

But people have been using Zotero with Alfred for years, and we haven't received any other reports of this.
  • So if Alfred hasn't been causing any issues for years, what makes you think that it might be the reason for these crashes? (I don't understand a word of the crash report extract you posted...)
  • Dragging is somewhat related to the system clipboard.
