Preferences causes freeze

When I choose Preferences from the little gear pull down menu it freezes my browser. This is not a total freeze. The window will both minimize and maximize but it is an empty frame with no content. I should add that it works fine when I use the preferences available Tools->Add-ons->Zotero preferences.
