Bibliography doesn't match in-text citations

Each time I refresh the bibliography, it puts citations in the bibliography that are no longer cited in text. This makes my citations jump from 32 to 38 in-text. I've tried deleting them from the bibliography and from Zotero, and neither helped. Is there a way to fix this issue?

Set Word to show field codes (i.e. the opposite of what's described here: https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/word_field_codes ) -- that should show you the hidden citations between 32 and 38 and allow you to delete them.
