Style Request: "Methods of Information in Medicine", ISSN: 0026-1270

Dear All,

I would appreciate your help in creating a citation style for the Journal "Methods of Information in Medicine", ISSN: 0026-1270

Similar style: Vancouver style

References
In the text number the references consecutively in the order in which they first appear, using Arabic numerals. Style is based on the formats used by the US National Library of Medicine in MEDLINE (sometimes called the ‘Vancouver style’). For details see the guidelines from the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (http://www.nlm.nih.gov/bsd/uniform_requirements.html).

Examples:
1. Lindberg DA, Siegel ER. On assessing the impact of medical in formation: does MEDLINE make a difference?
Methods Inf Med 1991; 30: 239–240.
2. van Bemmel JH, Musen M, editors. Handbook of
Medical Informatics. Heidelberg: Springer; 1997.

  • I don't understand. Why not use the existing Vancouver or NLM style?
  • The MIM citation style is based on Vancouver and NLM. Nevertheless there are some derivations from the both styles, apparent in the sample article. E. g. a citation chain (referenced items 5, 6, 7, and 8) is displayed as following: [5–8].

    Thanks,

    Iwanaiko
  • http://www.zotero.org/support/requesting_styles
you'll need to list those differences, please.
  • After comparing the styles MIM, Vancouver and NLM I’m of the opinion that the MIM style has more in common with NLM than with the Vancouver style.

The discrepancies I found out after comparing both styles are as following:

    1) MIM puts citations in brackets [1], NLM in round brackets (1).
    2) Space character between volume and issue is existing in MIM but missing in NLM
    3) Citation sequence in MIM is put into the same brackets e. g. [1-3] instead of [1], [2], [3].
    4) For internet citations: Fields “[Internet]. [date unknown];[cited 2009 Dec 3 ] Available from:” are missing in MIM, but existing in NLM.
    5) NLM seems not to use the accessed-field, existing in MIM for internet sources: Accessed 2008-03-13; 2005”
    6) Space char is used in MIM after the citation counter. NLM is using tabs.
