Can't update or cite, Google Docs 404/Safari

edited November 2, 2022
Trying to update an existing cite in Google Docs (Safari 15.6.1, macOS 12.5.1), I get a 404 from Google:

Zotero

404: Google Docs request failed.

{
"error": {
"code": 404,
"message": "Requested entity was not found.",
"status": "NOT_FOUND"
}
}

Trying to insert a new cite, I get:

Zotero

Zotero experienced an error updating your document.

Would you like to view troubleshooting instructions?

I've closed and reopened the Safari window with the Google Doc in it, and have restarted Zotero. (I have not restarted Safari since like so many people I have all these tabs open and yes there is the "reopen..." option but I'm always worried it won't work.)
  • It is likely that you have authenticated Zotero with Google Docs with the wrong Google account (if you are signed in into multiple). The way to reset that is to restart Safari and when prompted to authenticate, make sure you select the Google account that has permissions to edit the doc you're working with.
  • @natpoor: Also be sure to update to Zotero 6.0.17, which can fix a problem with Google Docs integration, and reload Google Docs afterward.
  • Ah good ideas both. I don't think the wrong Google account is the problem, since I don't think I would be able to see the Google Docs via my other account which I almost never use, but I will check.

    Ah I see I am using Zotero 6.0.15, so I will update that.

    I am a recent mover from Mendeley and am very happy with Zotero, btw.
  • Updating to 6.0.17 worked, although at first I did the update via the Zotero app and the Safari extension disappeared, so I did a new install of Zotero and that put the extension back and it works again! Thank you for the help!
