Issue syncing zotero across windows and linux

I have followed this guide (https://zotez2.ezbio.net/index.php?p=blog&id=3) to sync my windows install of Zotero with my google drive account. However, when I install the linux version of Zotero from https://www.zotero.org/download/ and attempt to set the folder to the shared folder, I get an error very similar to the one described here https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/81222/database-upgrade-error-attempt-to-write-a-readonly-database

Are these versions of Zotero incompatible for syncing or am I doing something wrong?

You absolutely shouldn't put your data directory in a cloud storage folder. They should take that page down.

To sync your library between multiple devices, use Zotero syncing.
