Editable PDFs are not editable in new viewer

I like being able to work with PDFs inside the Zotero desktop. Today, though, I realized that PDFs that have been designed to be editable--offering blanks to fill in--are not editable in this environment. Is there a setting I need to adjust, or can this be added as a future enhancement?

    Sorry, we have no plans to support editable PDFs in the built-in PDF reader. It's just not in-scope for the vast majority of Zotero usage.

    You can always open PDFs externally with right-click → Show in File.
