Zotero does not work with marked record lists in databases

If I search a database like Proquest Ebscohost or JSTOR, I can use Zotero to capture citations from the search results page. However, if I mark articles and then view my marked list, I cannot get them into Zotero.

Is this something that can be fixed? As a college librarian I can tell you that very few researchers export citations directly from their search screen into a bibliographic manager. They first go through their results and mark the articles they are interested in. Then they export the desired citations from the marked/saved citations list. Zotero really needs to have this functionality if it is going to be very useful for college level research.
  • I believe you're overstating your case--keep in mind that Zotero is developed at a university by people who do research!

If you have Zotero set to capture Endnote files, it will successfully import the "saved citations" (marked list) from JSTOR when you select "Directly export citations into EndNote, ProCite, or Reference Manager."

This should be the same for most other sites that provide this option. So zotero already does work for researchers who are only able to use marked lists & manually export them to their desktop software.
  • Thanks so much for the info, I was not aware you could do this. Can you tell me how you set up Zotero to capture Endnote files? This would be VERY helpful!
  • If you click on the gear icon, chose preferences, and check the "Use Zotero for Downloaded Endnote Files" box Zotero should intercept other reference imports.
