Syncing question

I have not synced my Zotero Desktop for many years, and I am now looking to pay for syncing. My online Zotero library is very out of date. What I want to do is not make any changes to my Zotero Desktop, but simply be able to use it elsewhere. Can I safely delete my online Zotero and then sync? I tried syncing before but my Desktop started adding old tags that only exist online.

No, definitely do not delete anything in your online library.

Normally just syncing should be all you need, but if that's not working as expected and your local library is exactly what you want/need, use the Reset --> "Replace Online Library" option in the Sync tab of the Zotero preferences.

You'll only need to do this once; going forward, regular, automatic sync is all you need.
