Does not work on Google Docs

After clicking on "Add/edit a quote" (or whatever), the window does not appear (it appears for less than a second before suddenly disappearing).

  • That's actually the Google Docs link popup appearing, not the Zotero plugin window.

If you disable all your browser extensions, restart your browser, and reload Google Docs, does this still happen? Can you reproduce it in a new, empty Google Doc?

    Hi,

The problem persists, even without any other extension than Zotero or on another browser.

When I use Zotero for the first time on Google Docs, a message appears: "Zotero is updating your document. Please wait..." in an endless loop. When I refresh the page, this message does not appear anymore.

I also have this progress bar that appears in an endless loop (https://i.ibb.co/44cDcHm/Sans-titre.png). It doesn't go away unless I kill Zotero in the Windows task manager.

Then, as I said, the issue is the same. The Chrome extension works perfectly (my documents are synced) but the Google Docs extension does not.
  • After restarting Zotero and your browser, try to cite in Google Docs. When you see the "Please wait..." screen, and/or the progress bar, make sure you look through your browser windows to see whether an authentication window has appeared, or through Zotero windows to see if a citation window has opened.
  • Everything you say was already done.
  • Restart Zotero and your browser. Then produce a Debug ID from Zotero for an attempt to cite. Make sure you wait a few moments after initiating the citing operation before you submit the Debug ID.
  • First ID (top of page): 1264292962
    Second ID: 1996851064
  • A Debug ID is different from a Report ID. Please read the instructions linked above.
  • Sorry, I didn't realize that difference.

    ID : D1859954325
  • Please produce a Debug ID from Zotero, not the Zotero Connector.

The Debug log shows that Zotero is trying to display a Document Preferences dialog. Make sure you look through open Zotero windows after this procedure, the Document Preferences window may not come to the top, especially if you had minimized Zotero before using it in Google Docs.
  • All Zotero windows were checked before accessing a Google Docs page (I also checked during my Google Docs activity).

As I mentioned above, a window was displayed in excess. It is an endless looping progress bar that appears after a window asking for a "style" choice (https://i.ibb.co/44cDcHm/Sans-titre.png).
  • After restarting Zotero does citing work with Word or LibreOffice?
  • It works perfectly on Word.
  • I don't know what to say. Zotero seems to be showing a document preferences window when you're using Google Docs, but you don't see it. The code that does that is the exact same code that does it for Word. There could be something subtle in your system that is preventing that, but we've never seen a bug like this before. Could you try with a different browser in a new Google Docs? If that doesn't work could you try creating a new Windows user account and check if it works there?
  • Okay, it's resolved.

When I click on the Zotero logo in Google Docs, a new Zotero window opens discreetly in the background to ask for a style choice (this style choice was already chosen in the past; I don't understand why I have to re-declare my choice every time Zotero is restarted (it doesn't seem to be remembered)). Nothing indicates that a window is opening in the background: no message from the current Google Docs window to warn, and nothing visible on the Zotero logo in the taskbar to call the user's attention that a new window was opened and requires an action.

Then the search bar appears after a few seconds of waiting.

Maybe see this post as a suggestion for improvement.

    Thanks for the help.

You don't. Those are document preferences, so you have to set them once when you start using the plugin in a new document.

Zotero brings the dialog to the front — we obviously don't open it in the background — but something on your system may prevent that from working properly.

"Those are document preferences, so you have to set them once when you start using the plugin in a new document."

Is there a way to remember a style choice for any new document?

"[...] something on your system may prevent that from working properly."

    My browser ?
  • It already remembers the last-used style. All you have to do is hit OK.
