Grey icon on every website, won't save anything

No matter what site I open (wikipedia, amazon, etc) I just get the greyed-out generic website icon, and when I click it, it makes a little popup that says "saving to zotero.org" that just sits on the page for hours, while nothing ever appears in my library. I have installed the latest versions of chrome, zotero, and the zotero chrome extension and restarted chrome, then restarted the entire computer. I have disabled my other extensions. I have reset translators. Chrome is not set to block cookies. Nothing has worked. Please help!
Running zotero on Windows (windows says it's up to date as of today).

When I go for the debug report, I get the following message: "An error occurred submitting your report. HTTP request to https://repo.zotero.org/repo/report?debug=1 rejected with status 0

If it's relevant, at the top of the advanced settings for the connector it lists the following report errors:

And do you have Zotero (the Desktop app) open when you try all this?

The error messages suggest that something is blocking Zotero from talking to the server at all -- are you using some particularly strict security or firewall software?

I have the zotero app open and was able to sync my library to my current computer. I am using a mobile wifi router in Japan that definitely does not have particularly strict security. I don't have any extra security software, and all of my other extensions are disabled.

Something is definitely blocking a lot of requests on your browser. What browser are you using? Have you tried a different one?

Just downloaded firefox and it works in that, so not exactly what I wanted, but problem solved, I guess.

Does it work if you create a new chrome user profile?

No, I tried a different profile and that didn't work.

Not much more we can suggest, other than trying in a new OS account. Something on your system (proxy settings, security software, some other system utility) is blocking Chrome — and apparently just Chrome — from making various requests.
