I don't see any L4 field in your sample RIS?
-
"not the usual way to quote in my field of research" You could work in the format that is convenient/bearable for you internally, and switch to the the standard in your field at any time. Then switch back to the lighter format if you need to make m…

Non-authoritative answer: yes, go for a group library so that you don't need to share all the details of your personal Zotero account with your collaborators.

This is a different approach, that one might consider easier (depending on one's background): https://zotero-odf-scan.github.io/zotero-odf-scan/ But I think you will always observe some level of friction in this kind of workflow.

I've been playing with it for a couple of weeks now, it seems to be only a wrapper for the web API. So you need to pay attention to syncing otherwise the results might be a bit strange when you look at or edit records in your local database.

The Zutilo plugin offers a different workflow if you prefer it: https://github.com/willsALMANJ/Zutilo

If you have access to a bibliographic database that includes citations (Web of Science, Scopus or such), you can search for your article of interest and extract the references in its bibliography instead of the article itself.

Yes, there is: https://www.zotero.org/support/duplicate_detection

It looks like there is no direct translator that could capture the records from your libraries of choice (at least that's what I'm seeing on https://hds.hebis.de/ubmr/index.php ). But you can use the standard export feature from these catalogs and s…

> Google Scholar openly acknowledges that theit metadata is not curated Do you have a reference for this? An authoritative statement would be extremely useful for me right now!

I agree with bwiernik, I miss the categories. For browsing purposes, they were really useful filters.

> shicheng.guo What do you mean "mendeley cannot insert citation in word"? Mendeley certainly has this functionality http://support.mendeley.com/customer/en/portal/articles/168756-installing-and-using-the-word-plugin-in-windows . I don't see th…

Just an update: I only had time to check the ACS Style Guide http://pubs.acs.org/series/styleguide (for the non-chemists: in this book, the American Chemical Society gives extensive advice on good writing practices, preparation of figures, and so on…

@lavoisier Now I disagree with your assessment that choosing a JACS issue is statistically unfair. Biased perhaps, as any sample will be, but not unfair. JACS papers, whether full papers or communications, are much more representative of the wr…

I didn't agree with lavoisier regarding the frequency of descriptions in bibliographic entries, so I have collected some numbers. In the latest issue of the Journal of the American Chemical Society (2016, Volume 138, Issue 1), out of 63 articles, …

@adamsmith: Well, I have done my best to avoid composite references in the past - quite successfully I'd say ;-) What you describe is my understanding at the moment, but I need to study the relevant parts of the ACS Style Guide and Wiley-VCH …
-
Hi everyone, as a chemist, former Endnote and current Zotero user, I'd like to say that I have NEVER EVER EVER used composite references in my manuscripts submitted to ACS, Wiley or RSC. I've never had any comments about this from the editors, …

@hlovette: Perhaps the institutional repository of your university offers the required functionality?

Or you could install Firefox on your Mac, if you're more comfortable with it than with Safari...

I'd love to see something like this, too. Or develop it if I had the time (which is not the case). In my opinion there are several non-trivial questions that would need to be addressed in order to achieve this goal: - finding a suitable molec…

I'd be interested in this.

OK, I have identified the origin of these silly publication dates (Jan. 1st, year 101): that's the metadata I have in my calibre database for some e-books, probably a default value assigned by calibre when a specific date isn't available in the impo…

I just tried to import a Calibre-produced Bibtex file into Zotero (after making sure it was actually Bibtex... that's the BIB option in Calibre's "Generate catalog" dialog box, in case someone need to know) and it worked well enough - all books ende…

> CSL styles allow you to use either the bibliography form or the citation form (hold down shift to get the latter). I actually hadn't noticed that feature (I should really read all text in dialog boxes, shouldn't I?)... thanks for pointing …

I have created a public gist for the style: https://gist.github.com/3180534 This is my first submission, so I don't know what happens next. With a little bit of luck, interested people can already take a look at it?

OK, I'll polish my CSL file a little bit and then submit it in a couple of days. Thanks for your input!
