Hi, After you enter the new item manually, you can change the item type by using the drop-down box in the third pane (the one on the right side where the fields containing the item information are displayed). With that drop-down, you can change a "W…

Hi, I don't think it's possible to put a note in a collection without detaching it from its parent item. However, you could try tagging all of the relevant notes (as opposed to their parent items) with a tag for the topic. Once you have done that, …

Could you put your personal identifiers into the "Extra" field? You'd still need to generate the identifiers yourself, though. I can see reasons why Zotero wouldn't want to rely on unique numerical IDs for each item, but I don't see a drawback to …

There's an option to turn off automatic importing of RIS/Refer files in the Zotero "Preferences..." which can be found in the "Actions" menu (the button with the gear icon).

Glad things are working out for you. :)

There is some documentation about creating citation styles here: http://dev.zotero.org/creating_citation_styles

Also, do you know about the existing advanced search tool? Check out the screencast to see how it works: http://www.zotero.org/documentation/advanced_search_screencast For example, if you set the first field in the advanced search to "Publication" …

Glad it works for you too. :)

Try closing and reopening the document, and then refreshing the Zotero data. I was having similar problems with Ibid and the above method fixed them.

Thanks a million, erazlogo, that's an interesting approach that may be just the thing for me. :)

Hi, I think it's more that the Portable version of OOo would need to change in order to accommodate Zotero and other extensions. In order to reduce the size of OOo so that it can better fit on a USB drive, certain aspects of its functionality have …

That helps - I didn't know about using minus. It seems cumbersome to have to do it each time I add a citation, but perhaps that's me being picky. :) It does not completely solve the issue for me, though. I still find that I get "too much informatio…

I believe that, along with encrypted pdfs, another sort of pdf file cannot be indexed: the pdf containing images of text, such as images of scanned paper. At least, I know that Beagle - an indexing and search tool that runs on Linux, etc., and also …

Hi again, I just installed PDF Download as an experiment, and you're right, it doesn't intercept how Zotero opens pdf files. That was really my basic idea for you. I choose to open all pdfs in a stand-alone application rather than with a browser …

Doesn't Firefox control how pdf's are opened? Have you checked in the Firefox Preferences dialog, the Content tab, and the last section in which you can "Configure how Firefox manages certain types of files". When you click the "Manage..." button, …

Hi, I don't know that this will help you much, but I've been able to get the plugin to run on Gentoo 32-bit, at least to some extent. I tried with the same version of the plugin you linked, with OOo 2.2.1 (not -bin) and Firefox 2.0.0.4 (not -bin). S…

Hi, If it would be possible to have a preference in which the user could enter the command to open the file, that would be great. I think that all that would be needed is a way to express the path to the containing folder of the file as a variable.…

Thanks for your response , Dan. I had to update Zotero on my PC to the current version in order to access the "Report Errors..." function. With the update, the behavior of importing changed a bit. Instead of hanging, the import seems to complete a…

Hi, I'm having the same problem with the library at the Université Laval. Zotero does identify the references for import (with the book icon in the Firefox address bar) but it hangs when importing. I have to kill Firefox from the command line to c…
