Ok, one use case is very simply, not really locale dependent, but yet quite common: Many web sites simply use - as a range separator, not endash. But in the output, I’d normally like to have endash. (Plus, many users don’t know how to type an endash…

@bdarcus Maybe you’re right and this should be handled at the application level. I think what was then necessary is some kind of »range« data type. This could be entered with two text boxes, like pages: [__] to [__] or using one text box (as it is n…

I just wanted to inquire: Is the above example correct, and is such a functionality just not implemented in Zotero? Or did I misunderstand the way disambiguate is meant to work? I’d be happy to find a solution for this using Zotero/CSL.

Adam, thanks for pointing out that this also applies to international style guidelines. I just wanted to inquire: Is this possible in Zotero/CSL? If it currently isn’t, I’d do it manually when everything else is ready, but it would be desirable to …

My concern is that the CSL that would result from your suggestion would either: be very complex, and very verbose, or ... not be international-friendly I have the impression that we're talking of totally different things. So please let me clarify …

@bdarcus: I'm not sure I totally understand your concern. Of course sorting and display rules are important when dealing with names, but I don't think this should prevent the implementation of specific requirements from publishers. If it clarifies …

I'm a bit afraid handling all these options requires adding tons of extra attributes. What about extending it on the element level, allowing style authors to use the existing formatting facilities for formatting text? E.g.: foren…

@fbennett, of course your totally right. I just missed that. Thanks for the hint!

Regarding you first point, order of names, I thinks this is handled by the "names-as-sort-order" property (which might not be obvious at the first glance). "Sort order" refers to the "Family Name, Given Name" order, so names-as-sort-order="all" woul…

Yes, I definitely second this request. E.g. biblatex has really smart handling of dashes, Zotero could benefit from having something similar. I wonder how to address this on a CSL level. Maybe a generic "replace" function would solve this as well a…

Yes, sure, thanks for the hint. Duplicating the items does of course reduce the amount of things to type. Nevertheless, I think introducing a concept of a »collection« consisting of several »parts« would be a nice addition, even on such a basic leve…

I realize you've grown used to the LaTeX way, but I don't think the Zotero method presents any real practical problems. It also has some advantages over LaTeX/BibTeX (like easier switching between citation styles; like author-date to note*). * LaTe…

Thank you, I'll try the debug option. I think a citation style is the right way for me, as it allows to easily add new BibTeX export schemes (e.g., biblatex) without having to change Zotero's internals.

Ah, thanks! I'll try that!

I know that the »Duden«, the de facto authoritative guide on correct German, recommends using quotations marks in the language of the quoted text. And in the LaTeX world, there are several popular packages supporting this, e.g. csquotes for quotatio…

Ah, ok. Yes, I definitely think that quotation marks should be localized. In my eyes, that's one of the huge advantages of a semantic attribute like quotes="true" instead of generic ones like prefix and suffix. To take this further, one might t…
