Okay, last verse of my little ode to expired functionality here. When a citation is edited via Classic editor etc, saved, then reopened, the toggleEditor function in addCitationDialog.js throws for an undefined .done() method in the promise chain. …

I have no idea how the underlying data is managed, but there will be documents floating around with both types of modification, and I guess some means of merging the two must be in the works, so that users with pre- and post- unification clients can…

It declares the modified text to be the original. https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/76804/incomplete-and-misleading-dialog-for-modified-citations Anyway, looking forward etc etc.

Seems to fix it. But see https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/76802/bugs-in-classic-citation-editor-box
-
I forgot to mention one further bit of weirdness. If the user opens a previously edited citation once again (by opening the Classic dialog, then clicking on "Show editor..."), and manually edits the text to be correct for context, saving the citatio…

Also, the bug does not trigger if citation updates are delayed. It triggers only when automatic citation updates are enabled.

In all cases, stopping and restarting Zotero followed by Refresh fixes it -- ephemeral data in Zotero is corrupted by the crash, but the problem goes away when the program is restarted, so long as the restart is not followed by another cancelled ins…

Can confirm that the same actions trigger the bug in Word 2013 under Windows 10 with Zotero 5.0.65.

Zotero ships its abbreviation list with the client, I think. It's only Jurism that uses a plugin, and it ships with the client (in the same way as the word processor plugins). In Jurism, the abbrevs are applied in all contexts (word processor, styl…

As adamsmith says. Punctuation (and HTML-like tags, and quotes, and maybe other stuff) is removed from the string before capitalization rules are applied, so restricting the rule to "al." isn't really an option. But it's a safe fix, and will prevent…

Ah, thanks, I didn't know about the wrinkle at 2 & 3. Why is there a difference in behavior?
-
For journals that are in Zotero's abbreviation list, with styles that abbreviate journal titles, the abbreviations should be applied in the bibliography. There is a setting that you may need to select: https://www.zotero.org/support/kb/journal_abbr…

Thanks. I spent the weekend code-spelunking, and made some progress. I was able to reproduce the bug using the citation editor (hence that last question), but using the red-ribbon popup (Quick Format) in a style that sorts its citations might also t…

Can you try with a vertical bar in there? This has all made me a bit curious.
-
The deed is done. The change will come out in a future release of Zotero.
-
I can easily create a version of style without title capitalization but this strikes me as poor practice for major styles. Fear not. I will add the word "al" to the list of non-capitalizing terms.
-
(To pile on, I still think it might be the { | } markup (to coin a phrase) that triggers ATOK conversion in a paste.)
-
By "copy a bibliography," do you mean adding an item to Zotero from a web view, or copying a formatted bibliography from Zotero to a document?
-
Another quick question. Do you use the preview editor ("Show editor ..." in the Classic citation dialog) at all?
-
That is regrettable. The problem is that the treatment of name particles is the end product of the originating culture, the immediate culture of the individual, and individual choice. There are many Americans of European heritage who consider the pa…

Here is a second way to trigger the c[0] bug, using the Quick Format dialog: 1. Open or create a document with citations in the Cell style. 2. With the document open, stop and restart Zotero. 3. Select a citation and open it for editing with the Qu…

I'll put forward a change to the particle formatting method, we'll see how it goes. Responding to your comments: a) When a leading particle is capitalized in the family field, it is not treated as a particle, but as a fixed part of the family name.…

Have you pasted citations or text from other documents into this one at all? (Sorry for the added question: I'm also very curious how this happens.)
-
This is true, but when references are printed, they need to be formatted correctly. It's a separate problem.
-
In the Netherlands it should not be sorted on 'van' . The guidelines for the article that Rintze has linked to would be those for the "Clinical Practice" section. The author instructions for that section are here, and indicate that references should…

- in first reference: N.C.F. van Sas - in second reference: Van Sas - and in bibliography: Sas, N.C.F. van In terms of the CSL rules on name particles, this pattern is achieved if the demote-non-dropping-particle attribute is set to display-and-s…

If there is a problem in the citation processor, it will be for me to fix it, but it's not yet clear to me exactly what changes need to be made. I'm also confused about the terminology. So just a few points to try to clarify our understanding of the…

@KlaasVaak One thing to try, if you haven't already, is to print the Okular-annotated file to PDF. That will change its internal structure, and possibly (although only possibly) put the annotations into a form that ZotFile can extract. I've seen tha…

There may be a misunderstanding. Zotero does not extract highlights. That is done by ZotFile, a third-party plugin that is not maintained by Zotero. Although ZotFile is useful and popular, as far as I know it is not being actively maintained beyond…
