The part before the underscore looks like the library ID -- it's not very well documented (or at all documented), but each Zotero item has a stable ID, which is made of two pieces -- a library ID and an item ID. There's some discussion of this at ht…

Well, I'll start looking into adding support to site translators. I don't know if this should be added to the default translators until the UI settles down, since it won't make for very pretty field content in the meantime.

The closest match is http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/1798/multiple-versions-of-a-field-in-a-record/ ; it will be possible to do something like this in Zotero 2.1, but it may be a very elegant or intuitive solution until a later version. It will …

No, you're not doing your job wrong, and I don't think that Bruce is trying to say otherwise. Zotero is trying to store and meaningfully work with data in automated ways, an enterprise that can be greatly helped by using existing standards like the …

And all of the types of cases/decisions need their own citation forms? I don't know if that will ever be possible. Can you imagine the complexity of a style that was trying to account for idiosyncratic citation forms of every jurisdiction on the pla…

My understanding is that CSL does not allow for styles to depend on the content of fields, only on the presence of fields. I am not the best qualified to answer, but I believe that it the case. Edit: Of course, adamsmith is the go-to person on these…

I'm currently working on fixing the Wiley after its recent breakage, and I'll see about PDFs.

I would love to see translators for eHRAF World Cultures and Archeology (a collection of ethnographies and archeological field reports hosted by Yale university) Both of these sites seem to be password-protected, so it's unlikely an outside person w…

First Pubmed, now CrossRef. The service is responding, but it is erroneously claiming that it has no results for the given DOIs. If it doesn't clear up in a few hours, there might be something to investigate.
-
And now it is back up. If you are still experiencing issues with Pubmed, please post here. Otherwise, I think we can safely say that all is well.

I think you're running into a problem where Zotero and Endnote store link locations differently. See http://www.zotero.org/support/kb/importing_records_from_endnote and http://www.zotero.org/support/kb/exporting_from_endnote_with_pdfs

As a person who did this for a few months, I can say that keeping the data directory on the NTFS-formatted windows partition made Zotero run much more slowly than moving it to the linux partitions. If you're syncing anyway, you might consider keepin…

The Pubmed Entrez Utilities seem to be down in general, judging from Twitter traffic on the topic. Hold on a few hours -- it should clear up.
-
The PMID lookup service is currently down -- see http://eutils.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/eutils/efetch.fcgi?db=PubMed&retmode=xml&rettype=citation&id=20519957 I'll see if perhaps something has changed. In the meantime, try using DOIs.

Yes, there is always an implied invitation for a DIY plugin. Many, many things would do well to be hashed out and developed as plugins. If they turn out to work well, then perhaps they might be merged into the main codebase.

And of course Frank beats me to it. What he said :)

This will be addressed, at least partly, in Zotero 2.1. That release is on its way (broadly speaking, probably at least a couple months away), and you can try out the development version here (http://www.zotero.org/support/dev/svn_and_trac_access). …

It's always easier to work from an environment that's familiar, so I'm glad you found an efficient way to do this in R + awk. Probably not the first thing that comes to mind for general scripting -- but it works! It would be nice to improve CiteULi…

Good -- I was getting worried that the concern for best solutions was threatening to crowd out the real need for other, less elegant solutions. It would be incredible to have server-side translators, although I'm having trouble imagining quite how t…

I certainly understand why we want to provide BIBO, but isn't the first priority to be of use to the existing wider community of people who use bibliographic data, many of whom use software that supports only the older formats? There's no technical …

(2) People can't easily download bibliographic data - except to Zotero This is definitely an unfortunate fact about Zotero's online presence. We could provide at least one of BibTeX/RIS/MODS/MARC export for groups and personal libraries (items, coll…

Yes, this should be possible. It will require that you learn how to install the Zotero server software, which has been released and is in the Zotero source repository (https://www.zotero.org/trac/browser/dataserver). As far as I know, no one has yet…

In that case, it seems to me that working sometimes and failing sometimes is preferable to being intentionally disabled all the time. Is there a reason we can't reenable the multiple item feature and work to improve it? That way at least some people…

Hmm. It was working for me from within Scaffold, so it can't be that far from working. I'll see what I can figure out.

I removed the line that prevented Zotero from saving multiple items, since that feature seems to work alright now. To try the new version, save http://github.com/ajlyon/zotero-bits/raw/master/ScienceDirect.js to the translators directory of your Zot…

I think that the idea here is that the translator only worked with an older version of Zotero. That said, it'd be better to modify the translator to work with today's Zotero-- not that much has changed, so the modifications should be minimal. In fa…

I think you should be able to revert to the old backup of the data directory, disconnect from the network, and open Firefox. Then you can copy to your personal library those items that have been corrupted or deleted from the server. You can then cop…

Copying the Firefox data directory will capture the metadata and attachments in a group library. There is not yet a good way of restoring data from a backup made in such a way, but it could likely be reconstructed in case of a catastrophe that affec…

No, you can't mount the Zotero storage folder. However, I think that the compression is _not_ in fact necessary, and that Zotero could still eventually move away from it for WebDAV clients. Dan may have insight to offer here, but the filename encod…

If you can, try to use the Trunk XPI and see if it addresses this issue. The development version (the trunk XPI) uses a completely new citation processor, and it may well solve this issue. See http://www.zotero.org/support/dev/svn_and_trac_access f…
