It is unsatisfactory, but it's a start. The next step is to figure out why that stopped working.

So, if Thomson's software are using this tag[..] Fortunately, we have decided to go by the spec in most cases. There are hundreds of products that use RIS, and observing the spec is the only way to even hope for compatibility. As it turns out, Endno…

Can you post an example RIS file with several book items that use SP for numPages? Just export something from Endnote and paste it here, so I can test.

Try going to the Google Scholar preferences and setting: "Show links to import citations into" to BibTeX. It looks like the logic for demanding BibTeX output might not be working.

That's a weakness in the current Primo translator. It will be fixed in the next version, which has been brewing for some time but isn't ready yet. There is debate as to whether we should be using Primo's unpredictable PNX format or the also not-so-h…

I had better get on this before I lose my reputation for fast fixes. I will take a look this evening (in my time zone, that means in the next few hours).

Are you restarting Firefox between attempts? Some translators are loaded automatically when Zotero starts, so you have to reload Firefox to get it to read the new version (although I didn't think that RIS was one such translator). Also, temporary fi…

I am importing using the (+) button in the styles tab of the Cite pane of the Zotero preferences.

I get the same error with, say Life Sciences.ens in Zotero 2.1b2. [Link removed: Thomson Reuters' licensing agreement prohibits downloading style files from their website for use with Zotero. -S.K.] I have never used an Endnote style, so maybe I'm …

Please go to http://github.com/ajlyon/zotero-bits/raw/master/RIS.js and save the file to the translators directory of your Zotero data directory (http://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data). Restart Zotero and see if the number of pages imports corr…

Checked in to the repository (https://www.zotero.org/trac/changeset/7336).

Does this now work with citations correctly?
-
Please go to http://github.com/ajlyon/zotero-bits/raw/master/NCBI PubMed.js and save the file to the translators directory of your Zotero data directory (http://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data). Try it out and see if this fixes things for you.

Wait -- this is about RDF or BibTeX?

An interested party might be able to look at the Internet Explorer and Chrome plugins and produce an Opera plugin, but my understanding is that barring a major shift in the browser market, there will not be any more browser plugins coming from the c…

I've folded this into a ticket on ContextObject (COinS) support improvement and submitted a patch (https://www.zotero.org/trac/ticket/1747). Thanks again for pointing it out!

Can you submit debug output (http://www.zotero.org/support/debug_output) for an attempt to import?

There is a puzzling line in the RIS translator, RIS.js:560-561 if(item.pages) { if(item.itemType == "book") { addTag("EP", item.pages); This line of course is never executed, sin…

Since no meaning is defined for SP or page range in book records and RIS doesn't define a tag for number of pages, I'm inclined to think that we should interpret SP as number of pages for books. @larmarange: What made you think that SP was correct …

Thanks for pointing this out. Conference papers are simply not supported by the COinS generator right now-- it should be an easy fix, however.
-
Confirmed, ticket opened, patch submitted (https://www.zotero.org/trac/ticket/1747). This was apparently overlooked. Let me know if you notice that any other parts of the OpenURL ContextObject spec are not implemented. This is minor and should cert…

PDF downloading depends on the site translator that Zotero uses. We try to write translators to save full text in all cases when we can reliably fetch it from the site. This doesn't actually depend so much on whether the site is proprietary -- it ha…

Thanks. I'll look into adding this to the Pubmed translator.
-
So what is the translator supposed to do to make this work?
-
I think this is actually breakage due to the changes in the translator infrastructure, and I'm having a terrible time pinning down a specific bug in the 2.1 translator code. What's happening is that the translator.setString(..) (line ~155) is not a…

Highwire fix now in the SVN: https://www.zotero.org/trac/changeset/7334

Links are not visitable in the default setup of the note software, but it should still be possible to add "Visit link" to the pop-up menu for a link, or to have shift-click go to the link target. I explored this in a previous topic on the forums-- T…

Just note that logging into the Zotero.org website is not enough to trigger an additional machine syncing-- you'd have to enter your credentials into the Zotero preferences on a public computer to run into such an issue.

If you do create a browsing mode like that, I will be more than happy to test it out for you and provide feedback. I frequently work in a very author-centered mode, so it would make my life easier.

Sometimes there are odd add-on interactions that resolve themselves. This appears to be one such case. Glad it's working now.
