I was hoping to declare a stable 1.0 release before formally releasing the schemas, since it's hard to maintain different files in sync. Yeah; maybe we need a little webservice for this. The RVP thing that accompanies RNV would probably be good fo…

Yes, Adam, I'd say if you know what you're doing, easier to just add it, particularly given all the recent problems with people posting "bugs" about the formatting engine that are really bugs with the styles they're trying to use. I'd also like to …

http://www.zotero.org/styles/american-phytopathological-society @Steve: please check it, and list any additional metadata (documentation link, field(s), etc.) that should be added here.

This kind of post is way, way out-of-line. If you're not simply a petty troll, then tell people the specific problems and how to fix it. Otherwise, go away please. This is the first time I've ever been prompted to say this, but I'd like to suggest …

Have you confirmed that your file is valid?

+1

OK Dan. Forward movement is a good thing in any case.
-
I hope, Sean, you don't think that this (a still Zotero-specific approach) is the end of the solution.
-
@bdarcus - hmm... image... isn't pdf more close to postscript? For my feeling PDF is way less evil than BMP. Sure, but I think much worse than a structured format like (X)HTML, where you can do funky things like this.

The solution for XML document formats like ODF and OOXML is to a) use standard fields b) embed the citation source metadata in the document package, and c) use standard global identifiers (URIs) to link them. You then process the document, with no c…

This problem is a big one, and I really dislike any solution that relies on a central hub, whether it's zotero, or anything else (and bibtex keys aren't going to work). I blogged about some of this recently, BTW.

See: http://www.zotero.org/support/requesting_styles

CSL has a "page-first" variable, but I'm not sure whether it's implemented in Zotero yet. Give it a try.
-
@Seeker51: you need to create a new style. See docs. I never did look at this style, BTW. I would have if the document was more accessible (e.g. HTML).
-
This sort of example is really unfortunate, because the HTML has no real structure. Typically in new web applications of this sort, every entry would be tagged as such, and each would get it's own id. This would enable you to directly refer to it fr…

@dmk: 1 is already being worked on; code is here. Also, I've recently blogged about some related issues.

I have no specific knowledge, but if you do a little searching on the forums, you'll realize that, because of changes MS made, the Word plugins are effectively two separate code bases. This makes it hard for them to maintain and enhance both. You m…

Would be nice to add RDFa to that page Trevor. I think it's a superior option in this case.

Did you upgrade the OOo extension?

I think your argument that there's a distinction between different kinds of categorization makes some sense (though see below). But I think that observation actually suggests that there's no need to standardize what you all "personal tags." Just to …

I really hate the idea of saving web pages as PDFs; taking a structured text format and reducing it to effectively a picture.
-
OK, I'm getting really frustrated. THIS STYLE IS NOT VALID! Problem 1: it's not a valid unicode file, so parsers break entirely because of two incorrect characters. Problem 2: many, many, many dumb errors. I know this is a consequence of some dum…

Pedro: the problem with the approach in Endnote is that, effectively, all of your custom data is only meaningful to you. Zotero doesn't support that sort of thing, and I've long argued strongly that it shouldn't; e.g. that if it does support some ki…

Hmm ... The server code isn't currently available, though it will be eventually. As Andrew and the threads he links to note, however, there are no plans to produce a supported and/or turnkey server package. What do this mean? So the Zotero team has …

To play devil's advocate, though, and to press both of you: The "why don't you recreate Zotero for my browser?" question is tedious, in part b/c it fails to recognize how much work is embodied in Zotero, and how much it stretches even a very rich a…

Original publication date would work though. I'd be happy to modify the XML in the citation format to drop this in as an extra field, and the 'Date' can remain as the publication date of the reader itself. That's not a very good solution; to rely on…

Good questions Dan. As for an example, here's one: http://api.ingentaconnect.com/content/bpl/anti/latest?format=rss

I'd call it bug that Zotero doesn't respect the false value, but remove the element and I'd guess that will work.
-
Would be nice if Zotero could reject invalid styles.

We were just having a discussion about this, but are still not sure this really belongs in CSL (might belong more to implementations like Zotero).
