How?
-
most computer users out there DO use Windows/Word, so if Zotero (and all other Linux programs) want to be accepted by this audience, they better copy its HCI / UI. Your comment is the first I've heard about this issue, so I don't think your argument…
-
You're assuming Windows and Word as the standard of comparison. I don't accept that assumption.
-
On notes, I think the current behavior is preferable (except they really need to add undo for note editing actions).

... the “case” has several fields that are most useful to the Anglo-American system of law, but it is less appropriate for other legal systems ... What are these "several fields" that you find inappropriate, and what are you missing?

How should obvious misspellings of author's names be handled? Should the correct spelling be used when entered into the database or the incorrect spelling as printed in the source? The former. What if there is a printed correction to the author nam…

This is somewhat orthogonal to the issue we're discussing here (which is about non-Western name display and sorting), but ... I''m not convinced a (single) "author authority" that involves all these players is either feasible, or necessary. It seem…

We also need to figure out how to handle the different-names-in-different-scripts problem.

Not so much for jonbean, but for the record: In that post, he asked about sharing references and notes among a class of students. A great way to do this now (and I may experiment with this myself this coming term) is to use the new group and sharin…

If you're a scholar, you ought to be a little more careful about attribution and quotation and such. By "other names," I take it you mean "jjb"? And are you referring to this previous conversation? If yes, then you're wildly misquoting and mischarac…

Fortunately, the developers ignored all the snarling at rich text and put it in 2.0. Actually, the developers' response to this feature request proves the process here works pretty well. The primary outcome of those discussions was a) that the issue…

Are you kidding? Do most people use MS Office in HTML mode? No? Why not? I didn't say anything about "HTML mode"; I just said that these applications can import HTML; just as easily as they can import RTF in fact. Try it. Look, leaving aside your sn…

Just to be clear, any real solution here has to recognize that a bibliography may mix different types of names, with different display rules. CSL is currently based on that understanding; it's up to implementations (like Zotero) to figure out how to…

RTF export is completely unnecessary; all of these applications can import HTML.
-
@cobusz: see extensive previous discussions on bibtex keys.i I personally think we need to move away from these sorts of identifiers for this purpose, since it ties documents to particular users, and (often) particular datasets.
-
Ideally, MS would make it possible for tools like Zotero integrate with their native suport, but they really don't (particularly on the Mac version). You need to submit a bug report to MS about this.
-
Please no. I absolutely hate every application I've ever used with a full WYSIWYG toolbar. This is for note-taking; not document authoring.
-
I think it's a bad idea; Zotero already arguably has too much functionality. Better to add this sort of thing as a separate extension.
-
No, that's not a reasonable request. For one thing, the owners of Endnote have already sued over Zotero's ability to use Endnote's styles (they claimed, incorrectly, that Zotero was distributing styles converted from Endnote styles), so it makes n…

So why aren't "Document" or "Article" types with some added tag(s) not sufficient? What is it about a business case or other sort of case study document that requires that it be privileged with its own type? Tags (keywords) or collections in Zoter…

I have very much enjoyed playing with Zotero. However, I am heading back to EndNotes due to its ability to create custom reference types. I realize that perhaps custom reference types are a feature that is beyond Zotero's current stage of developmen…

One longer-term solution is to point out to people that define these styles is that they make no sense in the 21st century, and suggest they change them. These kinds of rules are unreasonably difficult to implement, with absolutely no benefit for re…

... the "Date" field of the document is usually identical the "Access" field. How so? Seems to me in the vast majority of cases, the dates are in fact different. A creation date is entirely a different thing than an access date. It would be nice if…

@dwain0wilder: "usually the case" how? In the bibliography output? If yes, for what styles?
-
These anthropological styles aren't the common case, though, and so are misleading. They have some bizarre rules that require changes to CSL and to Zotero code to fully implement.
-
Please search the forums. This has been discussed before. Suffice to say, I generally agree with you, except for the "separate field for the page number" (there are better ways to do this in my view).
-
Do a search on the forums before posting something like this please. You'll find plenty of previous discussion about this.

Am not exactly sure what you're wanting, but generally, if you feel that need, you should be inserting two separate citations. If you're using a footnote style, create a footnote, then insert the citations there.
-
You're adding all this to Zotero; as opposed to a separate extension? If yes, this seems like mission-creep to me.
