Good to know that it's written. And fingers crossed that it gets rolled out soon. Now you know that there's an even greater need for it than may be perceived!
-
I'm still having this problem. If it weren't for emilianoeheyns's add in, which flags the jumps (and which I usually notice), I would be in deep trouble. Did the collections tree in fact get rewritten? If it did, it unfortunately didn't fix my pro…

Tks. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong with the installations.

Thanks for this. I'll stick with my special purpose ToFile folder approach, but it's good to know that there are other solutions. And even more thanks for your continued interest in users' problem and your general helpfulness. I really appreciate…

Very helpful. Many thanks. I now know what I have to do. One thought in this regard. For me (and perhaps others?), a command that would delete a collection and all subcollections below it in its hierarchy and _only_ those items that were unique to …

I'll just wait for the new and improved!
-
Happened again. Again I closed a subcollection and again another subcollection that I had previously but recently closed jumped into the subsequently closed subcollection.
-
As fate would have it, a collections jumping event occurred just now. I have the debug output. I think. What should I do with it, if anything? The context is that I was clicking through open collections to close them when the addon triggered, alert…

In moving ahead with the approach described above, I've found that my default profile has many unfiled items. I have no idea how I created them. The only thing that I can think of is that I deleted a number of subcollections without using Delete Col…

Thanks for this. Very helpful. The current library has not yet been synched, so I'll create the new profiles I need and then synch one or more of those new profiles as required. Much appreciated.
-
One other thought. Instead of an intermediate group, it seems to me that I could just copy-paste the material from the default profile to the new profile as I would for a restore from backup and then in the new profile delete material as appropriate…

Ah. Excellent!

This has happened several times in the last few months, but seems not to be as big a problem as before. I installed emilianoeheyns's plugin, and now I (almost always) see when a collection jumps on its own and immediately move it back. If the proble…

Thanks for the rapid response and for the tip re separate group libraries. I'll look into that.

For me, the mouse is not the problem. I use a trackball at the office. A portable mouse on travel. The teleportation happens regardless.
-
I've experienced the unintentional drag phenomenon, too, in the sense of subcollections getting moved to already open collections. But I did not connect it to teleportation. I just thought that Zotero was not sensing clicks properly, and I'd have to…

Restarted, and debug log now created. Must not have restarted when I thought I had. Lots of calls coming in at the time. So we'll have to wait for the next jump.
-
2) Okay. Just happened. I created a new subcollection. Save some things to it. Then went to another subcollection (not in the same heirarchy as the first in case that's important) and clicked the down arrow on one of its subsubcollections. The newly…

1) Ok. I've configured the path. Now for a fundamental question: Does this plug-in save debug logs at defined time intervals only? Or can it be set to trigger and save a log if a subcollection is moved? I ask in light of the collection-tracker.every…
-
Thanks. Done. We'll see what happens! BTW, will the plugin notify me if it's triggered? Subcollection jumps aren't always noticeable until you go looking for a subcollection and can't find it.
-
Yes, I do mean that one. I got it from here: https://github.com/retorquere/zotero-collection-tracker/releases . And I was surprised that when I double clicked it it tried to install in FF rather than Zotero. When I gave it permission to do so, it in…

I'm using the Waterfox fork of FF, because I need the Session Saver capability that Quantum blew away. And the plugin is not compatible with WF. So, I've simply turned debugging on. We'll see what happens. The problem doesn't recur often, so this co…

Thanks to both of you. I'll install it and see how things work out.
-
Given that @dstillman hasn't answered, could we have a go with the plug-in? It's happened again, btw. Same as last time. Working in one subcollection. Close it. Go to another subcollection and open it. The subcollection I was working in then appears…
-
Okay. I just saw it happen. I used + to show all my subcollections. Then I clicked on all the top-level subcollections to close them. After 6 or 7 clicks and closes, one of the top-level subcollections I had previously clicked just showed up as a su…

Couple things. First, the + search is great. I had no idea. Now I can track down lost subcollections much more easily than my previous kluge of searching for a word in an article title. At least if I remember the missing subcollection's name, whic…

Just checking to see if there have been any developments on this. I'm still having the problem, and it makes me quite nervous.
-
Yes, knowing that there is at least one person out there with the same problem that I have makes me feel a bit better. Fingers crossed on a solution!
-
Thanks for getting back so quickly. I don't know how many collections/subcollections I have, but certainly in the hundreds. Is there a way to determine this, btw? Also, it would be great if I could have different libraries on local disk, not the clo…

Worked. Thanks much!
