You can use firefox (and therefore zotero) without an internet connection & this is the easiest way to interact with the database. If you are a developer who wishes to use the database, refer to: http://dev.zotero.org/docs/accessing_zoter…

There is no way to automagically retrieve citation info from PDFs. See: http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/255/importing-metadata-from-pdf for information on cb2bib or go to the jstor pages for the documents you have and import them. You …

Zotero currently cannot import EverNote XML (which differs substantially from bibliographic formats). Though this has been asked before: http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/220/

(Belated) thanks for addressing DOI and page extents. I'd still be interested in a method of linking a PDF to a record such that Zotero could auto-download it.

Mounting/mapping the network resource to a drive works (but is unsupported). See: http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/518/

embedded RDF doesn't use "XML namespace stuff." It uses (X)HTML tags, just like any other microformat. This can be entirely in SPAN elements (a'la COinS) if desired.
-
Since anything other than COinS can't be done on a user level, ANY self-describing format (COinS included) can't be done on a user level. I see no reason why embedded RDF which wasn't self-describing couldn't be added to the citation page (though I…

Surely most of these are self-explanatory? As for the logic behind "creator:" there are multiple "roles" which a content creator can play (author, editor, director, producer, etc.) & this is merely a catch-all for all of these roles.

Subscript and superscript numbers and greek characters work fine in Zotero, as they're all unicode characters. Non-numeric (sub|super)script doesn't work, though.

Perhaps we can move this piece of discussion onto WP somewhere, so we don't hijack Zotero's forums?Ok. Is it appropriate for the "Cite this article" page? For lack of a better alternative, I suppose it is. Most pages which have embeddded RDF use met…

or we could add COinS to the article itself by asking the developers to modify Mediawiki. Since the "journal" format isn't really appropriate, though, I'd want to wait until the correct format is settled on before changing the software.I think embed…

I can replicate. The PDF is saved without an extension, but the snapshot entry has a ".pdf" extension. In addition to Andrew's work around, appending '.pdf' to the file will allow it to open.

@dme: Who was your query directed to? mousekitty did not state exactly what kind of citation was wanted. I pointed out that Zotero is already able to cite ANY URL as a webpage. If more citation info is needed for WP than is already provided, we s…

Also, regarding the specific case of a PDF bibliography: Zotero has no official PDF parsing. The devs have said they'll use pdftotext to do fulltext indexing, but this process will lose formatting information needed to give contextual information a…

This is a frequently asked question! See: http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/524/

A generated bibliography may be sent to the printer, to HTML, or RTF. Select the references that you'd like, right click, and select "Create bibliography from selected items.

Many thanks! Also note that the abstract import is fantastic!

Zotero can already export raw bibtex.

See this thread: http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/439/

It'd also be nice to talk about the best way to make file links which Zotero would eventually be able to auto-download through the MODS translator. Perhaps something like: application/pdf http://arc.nucapt.northwestern.edu/refbase/files/Karn…
-
The refbase svn version now uses zotero's conventions for DOI and pages. We will probably keep the changes to "pages," but I don't know if we'll keep the location of the DOI in the host or not. It doesn't seem to break anything yet, but it sti…

COinS was designed (after OpenURL) for findability, not for citation. I am not aware of any hybrid approaches which allow both COinS and some supplementary data currently. Site translators aren't too complex, so some sites may want to buil…

Individual scrapers are great IF sites don't make changes which require updated scrapers. While I use COinS, it is far from perfect. Two notable deficiencies are the lack of abstract support and the lack of file links (for automatic download o…

Zotero refers to their bibliographic scraping routines as translators.

I'm sorry for your troubles & sorry if I was a bit concise--it wasn't clear whether you had encountered but 278860 or not & I thought you just needed a shove in the right direction since you were able to quote the bug number. I'm sure t…

I actually added short descriptions to those particular tables last night, but feel free to add some to other tables and/or to clarify the descriptions I added. Thanks again!
-
Thanks for the clarification. The import table is meant to list file formats which users can manually import, as opposed to sites that can be imported. If some of the site translators use the raw formats, perhaps they should be changed to "partial…

I'll second that. My work around is to export a BibTeX file & use that. Documentation on the lyxpipe (which is used by both lyx and kyle) is: http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/LyXServer I believe that JabRef's method of interacting with Ema…

The style is in the scrapers.sql file: https://www.zotero.org/trac/browser/extension/branches/1.0/scrapers.sql But the URLs that it gives for the canonical locations are all 404s.
