I can't comment on what should or should not be part of baseline Zotero. I haven't worked on that plugin in a long while but I think it only links files that live in the folder selected in "Linked Attachments Base Directory". No idea how that came a…

Perhaps https://github.com/retorquere/zotero-link-local-files does what you want

Whoops, my bad, I thought this concerned bibtex import.
-
FWIW, BBT imports names, dates and tags correctly, but does not import the journal name, because it's exported by ui.adsabs.harvard.edu as "\aap", which is not generally defined and treated as empty by BBTs parser.
-
That is correct, it doesn't refresh. I haven't looked into how that works, or how to make the notes end up at the bottom. If anyone else wants to look into this my code can be used (or discarded) without restriction or expectation of payment on my p…

Something like this would be the way to go about it, but it's mostly UI-fiddling, and I hate UI work.
-
It is possible, yes, but I'd guess the reason why notes and tags are on a different pane is that they take an indeterminate amount of space in the UI, and the Info ta bis already pretty crowded.

While not by any means ideal, there is a way do do this with the Better BibTeX plugin and a little manual work. If you install it, enable jabref4 format, and export using the now-available "Better BibTeX" format, you can look for "groups" fields in …

I'd be thrilled to get this fixed in BBT but I'll need help from the zotero devs. It looks like there's a problem related to my translators loading fairly late in the zotero startup process, but I really don't understand that process in sufficient d…

Whatever you choose, do *not* sync the entire zotero directory but exclusively the attachments. If you sync the actual zotero db you're bound to corrupt it sooner or later.

Also technically Acrobat for Linux is still available (ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/reader/unix/9.x/9.5.5/enu/) but it's not been updated in 5 years.
-
Foxit is available for Linux, although by the looks (and performance) of it they use something like Wine to do it. But it works.
-
While I know it's thread pollution (maybe we should open a separate thread for this), but Edit: Markdown, markdown, a kingdom for forum markdown! yes please!
-
I have a potential fix for the soft-close problem at https://github.com/retorquere/zotero-better-bibtex/issues/863, if you could verify that it solves the problem for you (seems to for me), that'd be great.
-
I can't speak for the developers but from my understanding, syncing will go away entirely for Zotero 4 in the not too distant future. Syncing always requires an zotero account, all that webdav sync does is store attachments on webdav, not the refere…

Yeah this is valid (and necessary, and typical) BibTeX, so if JabRef chokes on that, that's a JabRef bug.
-
In general, you will find it easier to get help if you ask "I'm new to Zotero, how can I do the following" rather than "New to Zotero, Zotero sucks, it can't even...". I develop the BBT plugin, and as far as I can see: 1. is addressed (anything th…

When using pandoc to produce anything but PDF (which pandoc does through LaTeX IIRC), I recommend using CSL JSON or CSL YAML rather than BibTeX. Pandoc uses CSL internally and if you use BibTeX you go through an (by necessity) assumption-laden and l…

(for those walking in in the thread: fixes for both on https://github.com/retorquere/zotero-better-bibtex/issues/1058)
-
BTW, if you still have the unfixed file (with the empty bibtex keys and the personal entry types), I'd like to have a copy of that too.
-
You're welcome; the new release is out. Any subsequent problems with BBT, please report them on https://github.com/retorquere/zotero-better-bibtex/issues
-
That's not to say that importing with your specific attachments cannot still have errors, but the bare bibtex import now passes. Depending on how busy Zotero is with other things when you import, you could still see "Zotero is not responding, Kill/…

I just imported and looked where it failed. Nothing to fix on your end - there was an error in BBT, your file just triggered it. I've added it as a test case and have scheduled a new release.
-
Soooo... good news I guess? If BBT had many more import errors, stock Zotero must have been flawless, as I found exactly one error :) I can't test with attachments of course as only the bib file is up there, and the import took a looooong time, but…

(if you want to do this for the regular Zotero-generated bibliographies, this is in principle possible but not using an API that was meant to be used this way, it'd involve monkey-patching. This is a lot of work and pretty fragile -- don't do it unl…

I don't know about the abbreviation list, but in BBT there is indeed a scripting facility: https://retorque.re/zotero-better-bibtex/scripting/ It's largely undocumented but I can guide you through it. There are samples at the above link showing bas…

Or at least give us a copy of the bib file.

Please report errors with better bibtex on its issue tracker (https://github.com/retorquere/zotero-better-bibtex/issues). "Many errors" is not enough for me to go on, either. I will be glad to help if you give me more specifics. BBT will generally i…

I can assure you I have no sneaky technology dropping BBT into unsuspecting Zotero installations. Someone did at some point install BBT into your Zotero or Firefox in the Zotero 4 era.
-
Better BibTeX and Better BibLaTeX will export the same keys. Just plain BibTeX and plain BibLaTeX will export different keys. Just leave the thread as it is. Only the zotero crew can close threads, not us.
